Resident Diner is a gratuitous mashup of competing influences: Mid-Century Modern fixtures, Burt Reynolds memorabilia, a life-size Elvis cutout, and a bathroom adorned with vintage sci-fi patterned wallpaper. The menu is similar, with gourmet riffs on traditional hot dogs, Southern meat-and-three options, crunchy tater tots, and even a once weekly casserole-themed evening.
Feel free to call it kitsch, but I tend to think nichecore is a better term. Owner Meredith Bost furnished her diner with collectibles lovingly acquired for her own home, and they are a direct reflection of her wide-ranging and goofy tastes. It’s hyper-curation in a way that an Instagram-conscious brand could never.
I’ve been scarfing down hot dogs from Meredith’s pop-up cart for years. When she opened her diner, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to show off some creative weenies alongside her singular sensibilities.
