Stay-at-home orders were an important and necessary tool to slow the spread of COVID-19, but they’ve also had the side effect of compressing how life is lived. Activities that would have played out across a multitude of physical spaces — work, eating out, socializing, fitness — are still all happening, but in fewer and smaller spaces.
I used to go to the bathroom just for the delight of being alone for a moment. But with life playing out entirely at home, it inevitably began bleeding into that safe space. Living started to feel a little claustrophobic.
